Article L721-6 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national who has been granted a period of voluntary departure may, upon notification of the decision imposing an obligation to leave French territory, be forced to reside in the place designated to him/her by the administrative authority. This decision is taken for a period that may not continue beyond the expiry of the period for voluntary departure.

L’étranger auquel un délai de départ volontaire a été accordé peut, dès la notification de la décision portant obligation de quitter le territoire français, être contraint de résider dans le lieu qui lui est désigné par l’autorité administrative. Cette décision est prise pour une durée qui ne peut se poursuivre au-delà de l’expiration du délai de départ volontaire.
