Article L730-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The administrative authority may, under the conditions laid down in this Title, place under house arrest a foreign national who is the subject of a removal decision without a deadline for voluntary departure or for whom the deadline for voluntary departure has expired and who is unable to leave French territory immediately.

Article L730-1

L’autorité administrative peut, dans les conditions prévues au présent titre, assigner à résidence l’étranger faisant l’objet d’une décision d’éloignement sans délai de départ volontaire ou pour laquelle le délai de départ volontaire imparti a expiré et qui ne peut quitter immédiatement le territoire français.
