Article L754-2 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

When a foreign national placed or held in detention submits an application for asylum, the administrative authority may proceed, during detention, to determine the State responsible for examining this application in accordance with article L. 571-1 and, where applicable, to carry out the transfer automatically under the conditions provided for in article L. 751-13.

Article L754-2

Lorsqu’un étranger placé ou maintenu en rétention présente une demande d’asile, l’autorité administrative peut procéder, pendant la rétention, à la détermination de l’État responsable de l’examen de cette demande conformément à l’article L. 571-1 et, le cas échéant, à l’exécution d’office du transfert dans les conditions prévues à l’article L. 751-13.
