Article R128-1 of the French Insurance Code

A state of technological disaster is declared in the event of an accident rendering more than five hundred homes uninhabitable. The prefect appoints the departments responsible for gathering the information required to establish the disaster.

A state of technological disaster is declared within a maximum of fifteen days by a joint order of the Minister for the Economy, the Minister for Civil Protection and the Minister for the Environment, published in the Journal Officiel de la République Française.

L’état de catastrophe technologique est constaté en cas de survenance d’un accident rendant inhabitables plus de cinq cents logements. Le préfet désigne les services en charge du recueil des informations nécessaires au constat.

L’état de catastrophe technologique est constaté, dans un délai maximal de quinze jours, par un arrêté conjoint du ministre chargé de l’économie, du ministre chargé de la sécurité civile et du ministre chargé de l’environnement, publié au Journal officiel de la République française.
