Article R131-1 of the French Sports Code

Sports federations are placed under the control of the Minister responsible for sport, with the exception of school and university sports federations and unions which are placed under the control of the Minister responsible for national education; the Minister responsible for sport nevertheless participates in the definition and implementation of their objectives. The ministers ensure, each in their own area of responsibility, that the sports federations comply with the laws and regulations in force.

Les fédérations sportives sont placées sous le contrôle du ministre chargé des sports, à l’exception des fédérations et unions sportives scolaires et universitaires qui sont placées sous le contrôle du ministre chargé de l’éducation nationale ; le ministre chargé des sports participe toutefois à la définition et à la mise en oeuvre de leurs objectifs. Les ministres veillent, chacun pour ce qui le concerne, au respect par les fédérations sportives des lois et règlements en vigueur.
