Article R211-21-1 of the French Insurance Code

Any policyholder of an insurance contract provided for in Article L. 211-1 must affix to the insured motor vehicle, in accordance with the conditions laid down by an order of the Minister for the Economy, the insurance certificate described in Articles R. 211-21-2 and R. 211-21-3, paragraph 2.

The provisions of paragraph 1 are applicable to motor vehicles with a total authorised laden weight of less than or equal to 3.5 tonnes, with the exception of agricultural or public works vehicles and equipment, special machinery and vehicles travelling with a special W registration certificate.

Tout souscripteur d’un contrat d’assurance prévu par l’article L. 211-1 doit apposer sur le véhicule automoteur assuré, dans les conditions fixées par un arrêté du ministre chargé de l’économie, le certificat d’assurance décrit aux articles R. 211-21-2 et R. 211-21-3, alinéa 2.

Les dispositions de l’alinéa 1er sont applicables aux véhicules à moteur dont le poids total autorisé en charge est inférieur ou égal à 3,5 tonnes, à l’exception des véhicules et matériels agricoles ou de travaux publics, des engins spéciaux et des véhicules circulant avec un certificat d’immatriculation spécial W.
