Article R2213-45 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The officials mentioned in article L. 2213-14 check by any means the identity of the deceased, attend the closing of the coffin and affix two wax seals to it, bearing the seal of the competent administrative authority:

1° When the body is to be cremated;

2° In the event of the body being transported outside the commune of death or of deposit, when no member of the family is present.

Les fonctionnaires mentionnés à l’article L. 2213-14 contrôlent par tout moyen l’identité du défunt, assistent à la fermeture du cercueil et y apposent deux cachets de cire revêtus du sceau de l’autorité administrative compétente :

1° Lorsqu’il doit être procédé à la crémation du corps ;

2° En cas de transport de corps hors de la commune de décès ou de dépôt, lorsqu’aucun membre de la famille n’est présent.
