Article R233-7 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

European Union citizens mentioned in 1° of article L. 233-1 retain their right to residence as an employed or self-employed worker in the following situations:
1° They have been temporarily incapacitated for work as a result of illness or accident;
2° They find themselves duly recorded as involuntarily unemployed after having exercised their professional activity for more than one year and are registered on the list of jobseekers;
3° They undertake professional training that must be linked to the previous professional activity unless they have been involuntarily unemployed.
They also retain their right of residence for six months if they are involuntarily unemployed within the first twelve months following the start of their professional activity and are registered on the jobseekers’ list.

Les citoyens de l’Union européenne mentionnés au 1° de l’article L. 233-1 conservent leur droit au séjour en qualité de travailleur salarié ou de non-salarié dans les situations suivantes :
1° Ils ont été frappés d’une incapacité de travail temporaire résultant d’une maladie ou d’un accident ;
2° Ils se trouvent en chômage involontaire dûment constaté après avoir exercé leur activité professionnelle pendant plus d’un an et sont inscrits sur la liste des demandeurs d’emploi ;
3° Ils entreprennent une formation professionnelle devant être en lien avec l’activité professionnelle antérieure à moins d’avoir été mis involontairement au chômage.
Ils conservent au même titre leur droit de séjour pendant six mois s’ils sont involontairement privés d’emploi dans les douze premiers mois qui suivent le début de leur activité professionnelle et sont inscrits sur la liste des demandeurs d’emploi.
