Article R241-3 of the French Sports Code

In the mission orders, the director of the inspection department designates the approved veterinarian responsible for the inspection as well as the procedures for designating the animals inspected, such as random selection, ranking or the establishment of a new record.

If lots are drawn, they must be drawn from all participants in the competition, event or training. The number of animals to be selected by drawing lots is determined by the veterinarian in charge of inspection.

In addition to the cases provided for above, animals may also be designated at the sole discretion of the approved veterinarian responsible for inspection.

An animal may be designated several times during an event comprising several events in which it participates.

Dans les ordres de mission, le directeur du département des contrôles désigne le vétérinaire agréé chargé du contrôle ainsi que les modalités de désignation des animaux contrôlés telles que la sélection aléatoire, le classement ou l’établissement d’un nouveau record.

En cas de tirage au sort, celui-ci doit porter sur l’ensemble des participants à la compétition, la manifestation ou l’entraînement. Le nombre d’animaux à désigner par tirage au sort est déterminé par le vétérinaire chargé du contrôle.

Indépendamment des cas prévus ci-dessus, des animaux peuvent en outre être désignés à la seule discrétion du vétérinaire agréé chargé du contrôle.

Un animal peut être désigné plusieurs fois au cours d’une manifestation comprenant plusieurs épreuves auxquelles il participe.
