I.-The purpose of the aptitude test is to verify, by means of written or oral tests or practical exercises, the applicant’s aptitude to practise the profession of doctor in the speciality concerned, dental surgeon, where applicable in the speciality, or midwife. It covers subjects that are not covered by the applicant’s evidence of formal qualifications and professional experience.
II. – The purpose of the adaptation period is to enable the persons concerned to acquire the skills defined in I. It is carried out under the responsibility of a doctor or dental surgeon, depending on the applicant’s profession, and may be accompanied by optional additional theoretical training. The duration of the adaptation period may not exceed three years.
In order to complete the adaptation period, applicants for authorisation to practise the profession of doctor, dental surgeon or midwife are assigned to a post by decision of the Director General of the National Management Centre, on behalf of the Minister for Health, on the basis of a commitment to take on a post, which must be attached to the application for authorisation. An order by the Minister for Health sets out the composition of the application and the model for the commitment to host. If the applicant is unable to submit such a commitment, the Director General of the Centre National de Gestion will propose one or more host structures.
If the candidate completes his adaptation training period in a private establishment of collective interest or a private establishment, he is assigned to the university hospital centre of the subdivision in which this establishment is located. He/she is made available by means of an agreement.
The candidate’s assignment is decided by an order of the Director General of the National Management Centre, published in the Official Journal of the French Republic.
The adaptation period may be completed on a part-time basis. In order to be taken into account, periods of part-time work must be carried out at a rate of at least five half-days per week. They are deducted from the duration set for the traineeship on the basis of the proportion of full-time work completed.
