For the purposes of this section, the following definitions shall apply:
1° Test site: the first site during which the dust level of a given process is determined;
2° Containment: the isolation of the work area from the outside environment to prevent the dispersion of fibres;
3° Decontamination (workers, equipment, waste): the procedure contributing to collective protection against the dispersion of asbestos fibres outside the work area and which, for the decontamination of workers, consists in particular of the showering of personal protective equipment used, its removal and hygiene showering;
4° Instructing party: the head of the user company, referred to in Article R. 4511-1 and in Decree No. 77-1321 of 29 November 1977 on work carried out in an establishment by an external company, or the contracting authority referred to in Article L. 4531-1 or the shipowner, referred to in Decree No. 2017-1442 of 3 October 2017 on the prevention of asbestos-related risks on board ships, under the conditions of entry into force laid down in this decree;
5° Encapsulation: all processes implemented, such as encasement, lining, fixing by coating, impregnation, with a view to treating and preserving, in a watertight manner, the asbestos in place and the materials containing it in order to prevent the dispersion of asbestos fibres in the atmosphere ;
6° Dust level: the level of concentration of asbestos fibres generated by a work process in the worker’s breathing zone, outside the respiratory protective device, on the basis of which the technical rules, collective protection measures and personal protective equipment are organised and implemented;
7° Operation: one of the works or interventions mentioned in Article R. 4412-94;
8° Operational phases: simultaneous or successive parts of the operation likely to give rise to different levels of dust;
9° Process: the techniques and operating methods used, taking into account the characteristics of the materials concerned and the collective protection measures implemented;
10° Shift: the period during which the worker wears a respirator without interruption;
11° Recovery zone: the area outside the polluted zone in which it is not necessary to wear personal protective equipment in order to protect the worker’s health.
