Article R521-16 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

Asylum seekers are given an information document on the asylum application procedure, their rights and the obligations they must respect during the procedure, the possible consequences of not respecting their obligations or refusing to cooperate with the authorities, and the means available to help them lodge their application with the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons.
This document also informs them of their rights and obligations with regard to reception conditions, as well as the organisations that provide assistance to asylum seekers.
This information is provided in a language that the asylum seeker understands or can reasonably be expected to understand.

Il est remis au demandeur d’asile un document d’information sur la procédure de demande d’asile, sur ses droits et sur les obligations qu’il doit respecter au cours de la procédure, sur les conséquences que pourrait avoir le non-respect de ses obligations ou le refus de coopérer avec les autorités et sur les moyens dont il dispose pour l’aider à introduire sa demande auprès de l’Office français de protection des réfugiés et apatrides.
Ce document l’informe également sur ses droits et sur les obligations au regard des conditions d’accueil, ainsi que sur les organisations qui assurent une assistance aux demandeurs d’asile.
Cette information se fait dans une langue que le demandeur d’asile comprend ou dont il est raisonnable de penser qu’il la comprend.
