Article 2232 of the French Civil Code

The postponement of the starting point, suspension or interruption of prescription may not have the effect of extending the period of extinctive prescription beyond twenty years from the day on which the right arose.

The first paragraph does not apply in the cases referred to in articles 2226, 2226-1, 2227, 2233 and 2236, in the first paragraph of article 2241 and to l’article 2244. Nor does it apply to actions relating to the status of persons.

Article 2232

Le report du point de départ, la suspension ou l’interruption de la prescription ne peut avoir pour effet de porter le délai de la prescription extinctive au-delà de vingt ans à compter du jour de la naissance du droit.

Le premier alinéa n’est pas applicable dans les cas mentionnés aux articles 2226, 2226-1, 2227, 2233 et 2236, au premier alinéa de l’article 2241 et à l’article 2244. Il ne s’applique pas non plus aux actions relatives à l’état des personnes.
