A crematorium comprises a public area reserved for families and a technical area reserved for professionals.
It is designed in accordance with the provisions of Article L. 112-2 of the Construction and Housing Code.
The public area of the crematorium reserved for the reception of families complies with the regulations applicable to establishments open to the public, in particular the provisions of the fire safety regulations.
The technical area and the public area of the crematorium comply with the regulations applicable to establishments open to the public, in particular the provisions of the fire safety regulations.
The technical part and the public part of the crematorium in which professionals carry out their activities comply with the regulatory provisions of Part IV of the French Labour Code, in particular with regard to:
The use of the crematorium’s premises, in particular with regard to
1° The use of workplaces, including fire prevention;
2° The design and use of work equipment;
3° The prevention of specific risks.

The technical characteristics relating to the public and technical parts of a crematorium are determined by joint order of the minister responsible for local authorities and the minister responsible for health.
