The head of a paediatric continuous monitoring unit not specialising in organ transplantation or paediatric oncology is :
1° Either a paediatrician who holds a diploma of complementary specialised studies in medical intensive care or an inter-university diploma in paediatric intensive care and emergencies, or who can provide evidence of one year’s experience in intensive care;
2° Or an anaesthetist-resuscitator with one year’s experience in paediatric intensive care or two years’ experience in paediatric anaesthesia.
Where the hospital has a paediatric or specialised paediatric intensive care unit, the medical responsibility for the continuous monitoring unit is shared with that of the paediatric or specialised paediatric intensive care unit.
If the hospital does not have a paediatric intensive care unit but does have a paediatric continuous monitoring unit, the medical responsibility of this unit may be shared with that of the paediatric, neonatology or paediatric emergency department.
Where the establishment has a dedicated paediatric surgical monitoring unit, medical responsibility for this may be assigned to the head of the paediatric anaesthesia or paediatric surgery sector.
Where the establishment has a paediatric continuous monitoring unit specialising in organ transplantation or paediatric oncology, this is placed under the medical responsibility of the person in charge of these activities.
