The Banque de France has set up a Banking Inclusion Observatory to collect information on access to banking services for individuals who are not acting for professional purposes, on the use that these individuals make of these banking services and on the initiatives taken by credit institutions in this area. This observatory is also responsible for defining, producing and analysing indicators relating to banking inclusion, in particular with a view to assessing changes in the practices of credit institutions in this area.
Credit institutions provide the Observatory with the information it needs to carry out its tasks.
A decree of the Council of State shall specify the organisation and operation of the Observatory.
The Banking Inclusion Observatory publishes an annual report on the implementation of its tasks. This report includes an analysis of banking inclusion indicators and trends, an assessment of credit institutions’ practices and any recommendations made by the Observatory to improve banking inclusion. It may also describe and analyse examples of good or bad individual practices by certain credit institutions.
