Article L653-10 of the French Commercial code

The court that declares personal bankruptcy may order disqualification from holding an elective public office. The disqualification is pronounced for a period equal to that of the personal bankruptcy, up to a maximum of five years. When the decision has become final, the Public Prosecutor notifies the interested party of the incapacity, which takes effect from the date of this notification.

Le tribunal qui prononce la faillite personnelle peut prononcer l’incapacité d’exercer une fonction publique élective. L’incapacité est prononcée pour une durée égale à celle de la faillite personnelle, dans la limite de cinq ans. Lorsque la décision est devenue définitive, le ministère public notifie à l’intéressé l’incapacité, qui produit effet à compter de la date de cette notification.
