The members of the customary grand council of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations are appointed for six years.
Any person appointed to replace a member of the customary grand council serves until the expiry of the term of office of the person he or she replaces.
The term of office of the members of the customary grand council is renewable.
The renewal of the customary grand council occurs, at the latest, in the month preceding the end of the term of office of its members.
The customary grand council may decide by an absolute majority of its members to proceed with its full renewal. The new customary grand council continues the mandate of the dissolved council until the end of its term.
Seats that become vacant during the term of office are filled within three months of the vacancy being established.
