CHAPTER IV bis : The Great Customary Council of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations

The purpose of the Grand Customary Council of the Amerindian and Bushinengean populations is to ensure the representation of the Amerindian and Bushinengean populations of French Guiana and to defend their legal, economic, social, cultural, educational and environmental interests. It is placed under the State representative in the territorial collectivity of French Guiana.

The Grand Customary Council may be consulted by the Assembly of French Guyana or its president, by the Economic, Social, Environmental, Cultural and Education Council, as well as by the State representative in the territorial collectivity, on any issue concerning the environment, the living environment or the cultural activities of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations.

The great customary council may also refer to itself any draft or proposed deliberation of the territorial collectivity of French Guiana that directly concerns the environment, the living environment or the cultural activities of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations. The Grand Customary Council of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations may hold joint meetings with the Economic, Social, Environmental, Culture and Education Council of French Guiana to examine issues falling within their common field of competence.

The Grand Customary Council organises and records the designation of the customary and traditional authorities, and notifies it to the State representative in French Guyana.
