Article R2213-28 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

For victims of accidents on board armed forces aircraft, provided that there are no grounds for refusing authorisation for burial and after compliance with the formalities prescribed in Article 81 of the Civil Code, a declaration of immediate transport with a view to autopsy to the nearest military hospital or air base infirmary is made to the State representative in the department where the autopsy takes place.

On completion of the autopsy, the territorially competent civilian authority at the place of autopsy issues authorisation for burial or cremation.

Pour les victimes d’accidents survenus à bord d’un avion des forces armées, sous réserve qu’il n’y ait pas de motif à refus de l’autorisation d’inhumation et après observation des formalités prescrites à l’article 81 du code civil, une déclaration de transport immédiat en vue d’autopsie à l’hôpital militaire ou à l’infirmerie de la base aérienne la plus proche est effectuée auprès du représentant de l’Etat dans le département où l’autopsie a lieu.

L’autopsie terminée, l’autorité civile territorialement compétente du lieu d’autopsie délivre l’autorisation d’inhumation ou de crémation.
