Exhumations are carried out either outside cemetery opening hours to the public, or during these opening hours, in a part of the cemetery closed to the public.
When the body is to be reburied in the same cemetery, reburial takes place without delay.
When the body is to be reburied in another cemetery in the same municipality or in another municipality, translation and reburial take place without delay.

Exhumation workers wear a special suit, which is then disinfected, as are their shoes. They are required to clean their face and hands antiseptically.
The Minister in charge of health sets the conditions under which coffins are handled and extracted from the grave, after consulting the Haut Conseil de la santé publique.
