The state of abandonment is recorded in a report drawn up by the mayor or his delegate after a visit to the site, in the presence of a police officer delegated by the head of the district or, in the absence of the latter, a forest warden or a municipal police officer.
The descendants or successors of the concession holders, if the mayor is aware that any still exist, are notified one month in advance, by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, of the day and time of the inspection. They are invited to attend the inspection of the plot or to be represented.
The same procedure may be followed with regard to the persons responsible for the maintenance of the plot.
In the event that the residence of the descendants or successors of the concessionaires is not known, the above-mentioned notice is displayed at the Town Hall and at the cemetery gate.
