Preservation care is carried out with respect for the dignity of the deceased:
1° In the preparation room of the technical area of a mortuary under the conditions provided for by article D. 2223-84 ;
2° In the body preparation room of the technical area of a mortuary under the conditions laid down by the order mentioned in article R. 2223-96;
3° At the home of the deceased, when the thanatopractor’s equipment and the configuration of the room meet the minimum requirements, in particular in terms of surface area, access, ventilation, cleaning and lighting, set by order of the ministers responsible for health, labour and the interior, issued after consulting the Haut Conseil de la santé publique. This care must be provided within 36 hours of death. This period may be extended by 12 hours to take account of special circumstances, subject to the feasibility of the conservation care being assessed by the thanatopractor.
