Article R2225-9 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Fire hydrants are subject to periodic technical inspections.

The purpose of these technical inspections is to assess the capacity of fire hydrants. They are carried out as part of the special police force for external fire defence under the authority of the mayor or the president of the public inter-communal cooperation establishment with its own tax system when it is competent.

The procedures for carrying out these technical inspections and their frequency are defined in the departmental regulations referred to in article R. 2225-3.

Les points d’eau incendie font l’objet de contrôles techniques périodiques.

Ces contrôles techniques ont pour objet d’évaluer les capacités des points d’eau incendie. Ils sont effectués au titre de la police spéciale de la défense extérieure contre l’incendie sous l’autorité du maire ou du président de l’établissement public de coopération intercommunale à fiscalité propre lorsqu’il est compétent.

Les modalités d’exécution et la périodicité de ces contrôles techniques sont définies dans le règlement départemental mentionné à l’article R. 2225-3.
