Article R2333-120-48 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

In cases that are not ready for trial, the proceedings are suspended by notification of the death of one of the parties or, by the mere fact of the death, resignation, disqualification or removal of his lawyer. This suspension lasts until formal notice is given to resume the proceedings or to appoint a lawyer.

Dans les affaires qui ne sont pas en état d’être jugées, la procédure est suspendue par la notification du décès de l’une des parties ou, par le seul fait du décès, de la démission, de l’interdiction ou de la destitution de son avocat. Cette suspension dure jusqu’à la mise en demeure pour reprendre l’instance ou constituer avocat.
