Article R412-5 of the French Consumer Code

When foodstuffs are not pre-packaged, the indication and, where appropriate, the letter “L” appear on the packaging or container or, failing this, on the commercial documents referring to them.
In all cases, it must be easily visible, clearly legible and indelible.

Lorsque les denrées alimentaires ne sont pas préemballées, la mention et, le cas échéant, la lettre ” L ” figurent sur l’emballage ou le récipient ou, à défaut, sur les documents commerciaux s’y référant.
Elle y figure dans tous les cas de manière à être facilement visible, clairement lisible et indélébile.
