Article R612-1 of the French Consumer Code

The mediation of consumer disputes referred to in 5° of Article L. 611-1 meets the following requirements:
1° It is easily accessible by electronic means or by ordinary mail to all parties, consumer or professional;
2° It is free of charge for the consumer with the exception of the costs set out in 3° and 4°;
3° The parties have the option, at their own expense, to be represented by a lawyer or to be assisted by any person of their choice at all stages of the mediation;
4° Each party may also request the opinion of an expert, the costs of which are at their own expense. In the event of a joint request for an expert opinion, the costs shall be shared by the parties.

La médiation des litiges de la consommation mentionnée au 5° de l’article L. 611-1 satisfait aux exigences suivantes :
1° Elle est aisément accessible par voie électronique ou par courrier simple à toutes les parties, consommateur ou professionnel ;
2° Elle est gratuite pour le consommateur à l’exception des frais prévus aux 3° et 4° ;
3° Les parties ont la faculté, à leur charge, de se faire représenter par un avocat ou de se faire assister par toute personne de leur choix à tous les stades de la médiation ;
4° Chaque partie peut également solliciter l’avis d’un expert, dont les frais sont à sa charge. En cas de demande conjointe d’expertise, les frais sont partagés entre les parties.
