Article R811-23 of the French Commercial code

The qualifying examination comprises two options, to be chosen by the candidate, one in commercial matters, the other in civil matters.

The programme and procedures for this examination, which includes theoretical and practical tests and an internship dissertation, are set by order of the Minister of Justice. Some of the tests may be common to both options.
Each candidate may choose one or both of the options. When a candidate chooses both options, the corresponding tests are taken during the same session.

Successful completion of the examination entitles the candidate to one of the two options.
Successful completion of the examination entitles the candidate to the mention of the speciality corresponding to the option chosen.

L’examen d’aptitude comporte deux options, au choix du candidat, l’une en matière commerciale, l’autre en matière civile.

Le programme et les modalités de cet examen, comprenant des épreuves à caractère théorique et pratique et un mémoire de stage, sont fixés par arrêté du garde des sceaux, ministre de la justice. Certaines des épreuves peuvent être communes aux deux options.

Chaque candidat peut choisir l’une des options, ou les deux. Lorsqu’un candidat choisit les deux options, les épreuves correspondantes sont subies au cours de la même session.

Le succès à l’examen ouvre droit à la mention de la spécialité correspondant à l’option choisie.
