Paragraph 4: Provisions relating to the supervision of practice

The number of participants per instructor is determined by the instructor on the basis of his or her competence, the level of the participants, the environmental conditions and the characteristics of the activity. However, this number may not exceed sixteen people.

If changes in weather or water conditions are likely to endanger the health or safety of participants, the supervisor will adapt or cancel the activities.

Supervision takes place from or near a suitable boat. The supervisor must be equipped with: 1° Personal buoyancy equipment with a performance level of at least 50N; 2° Closed shoes; 3° For river activities of class III and above, a protective helmet guaranteeing safety. When conditions require it, the supervisor is provided with a means of communication.

In the absence of a classification published in the official bulletin of the relevant delegating federation, the instructor himself determines the classification of the river course on which he is embarking, in the light of the classification criteria set out inAnnex III-12.
