The Conseil national de l’ordre acknowledges receipt of the application for authorisation to practise as a midwife submitted by a person holding evidence of formal qualifications as a midwife obtained in the province of Quebec within one month of receipt.
Within this time limit, the national council shall invite the person concerned, where appropriate, to produce any missing documents and shall inform him or her of the obligation to complete a three-month adaptation period, renewable once, on a full-time or part-time basis, in an obstetrics unit of a public, private or community health establishment.
The purpose of the adaptation period is to check that the various aspects of French professional practice and the professional rules applicable in France have been integrated, both theoretically and clinically.
In order to complete the training period, candidates are assigned by decision of the Director General of the National Management Centre, on behalf of the Minister for Health, to a post in an approved host structure, on the basis of a commitment to host which is attached to the application for authorisation. An order by the Minister for Health sets out the composition of the application and the model for the commitment to host. If the applicant is unable to submit such a commitment, the Director General of the Centre National de Gestion will propose one or more host structures.
In the event that the candidate carries out his training period in a private establishment of collective interest or a private establishment, he is assigned to the university hospital centre of the subdivision in which he is located. They are made available under an agreement.
The adaptation period may be carried out on a part-time basis. In order to be taken into account, periods of part-time work must be carried out for at least five half-days per week. They are deducted from the duration of the training period on the basis of the proportion of full-time work completed.
