Article L422-1 of the French Civil Aviation Code

The crew is made up of all the people on board to service the aircraft in flight. It is placed under the orders of a captain.

In order to allow the organisation of public air transport, without prejudice to the application of articles L. 422-2 to L. 422-4, in compliance with the measures taken to ensure flight safety, flight crews are required, except in cases of force majeure or medical impossibility, to perform their scheduled service between two transfers to one of the company’s flight crew assignment bases.

L’équipage est constitué par l’ensemble des personnes embarquées pour le service de l’aéronef en vol. Il est placé sous les ordres d’un commandant de bord.

Afin de permettre l’organisation du transport public aérien, sans préjudice de l’application des articles L. 422-2 à L. 422-4, dans le respect des dispositions prises pour assurer la sécurité des vols, le personnel navigant est tenu, sauf cas de force majeure ou impossibilité médicale, d’assurer son service programmé entre deux passages à l’une des bases d’affectation du personnel navigant de l’entreprise.
