Article L7124-13 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The members of the customary grand council of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations are appointed for six years.

Any person appointed to replace a member of the customary grand council serves until the expiry of the term of office of the person he or she replaces.

The term of office of the members of the customary grand council is renewable.

The renewal of the customary grand council occurs, at the latest, in the month preceding the end of the term of office of its members.

The customary grand council may decide by an absolute majority of its members to proceed with its full renewal. The new customary grand council continues the mandate of the dissolved council until the end of its term.

Seats that become vacant during the term of office are filled within three months of the vacancy being established.

Les membres du grand conseil coutumier des populations amérindiennes et bushinenges sont désignés pour six ans.

Toute personne désignée pour remplacer un membre du grand conseil coutumier exerce son mandat jusqu’à l’expiration du mandat de la personne qu’elle remplace.

Le mandat des membres du grand conseil coutumier est renouvelable.

Le renouvellement du grand conseil coutumier intervient, au plus tard, dans le mois précédant la fin du mandat de ses membres.

Le grand conseil coutumier peut décider à la majorité absolue de ses membres de procéder à son renouvellement intégral. Le nouveau grand conseil coutumier poursuit jusqu’à son terme le mandat du conseil dissous.

Les sièges devenus vacants en cours de mandat sont pourvus dans un délai de trois mois à compter de la constatation de la vacance.
