Article R1225-1 of the French Labour Code

In order to benefit from the pregnancy and maternity protection provided for in articles L. 1225-1 et seq., the employee shall submit to her employer, against receipt or by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, a medical certificate attesting to her state of pregnancy and the presumed date of delivery or the actual date of delivery, as well as, where applicable, the existence and foreseeable duration of her medical condition requiring an extension of the period of suspension of her employment contract.

Pour bénéficier de la protection de la grossesse et de la maternité, prévue aux articles L. 1225-1 et suivants, la salariée remet contre récépissé ou envoie par lettre recommandée avec avis de réception à son employeur un certificat médical attestant son état de grossesse et la date présumée de son accouchement ou la date effective de celui-ci, ainsi que, s’il y a lieu, l’existence et la durée prévisible de son état pathologique nécessitant un allongement de la période de suspension de son contrat de travail.
