Article R*211-23 of the French Insurance Code

Persons who are not in possession of one of the documents provided for in section IV of this chapter, or of the international insurance card referred to in article R. 211-22 must, in order to be allowed to drive a vehicle in France which is not normally based in France or in a State referred to in article L. 211-4, have taken out special insurance known as “frontier insurance”.

Frontier insurance may only provide cover for a period of thirty days or ninety days, renewable once only under the same conditions as those initially taken out.

Les personnes qui ne sont munies ni d’un des documents prévus à la section IV du présent chapitre, ni de la carte internationale d’assurance mentionnée à l’article R. 211-22 doivent, pour être admises à faire circuler en France un véhicule qui n’a pas son lieu de stationnement habituel en France ou dans un Etat visé à l’article L. 211-4, avoir souscrit une assurance spéciale dite ” assurance frontière “.

L’assurance frontière ne peut prévoir de garantie que pour une période de trente jours ou de quatre-vingt-dix jours, renouvelable une seule fois dans les mêmes conditions que celles initialement souscrites.
