Article R2213-16 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Only one body is admitted in each coffin. However, the interment in the same coffin of the bodies is authorised:

1° Of several stillborn children of the same mother or children born alive and then deceased after childbirth;

2° Of the mother and one or more of her stillborn children or children born alive and then deceased after childbirth.

The 1° and 2° apply only if the first death occurs at the latest at the time of childbirth or shortly thereafter and the last death occurs before the end of the legal period for burial or cremation following the first death.

Il n’est admis qu’un seul corps dans chaque cercueil. Toutefois, est autorisée la mise en bière dans un même cercueil des corps :

1° De plusieurs enfants sans vie d’une même mère ou enfants nés vivants puis décédés après l’accouchement ;

2° De la mère et d’un ou plusieurs de ses enfants sans vie ou nés vivants puis décédés après l’accouchement.

Le 1° et 2° ne sont applicables que si le premier décès intervient au plus tard au moment de l’accouchement ou peu de temps après et que le dernier décès intervient avant la fin du délai légal d’inhumation ou de crémation suivant le premier décès.
