Article R2242-1 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Any notary appointed as custodian of a will containing a legacy in favour of a commune or a communal public establishment is required, as soon as the will is opened, to send the mayor or the representative of the legatee establishment a full copy of the testamentary provisions.

The copy is written on plain paper, and a receipt is issued for the documents sent.

Tout notaire constitué dépositaire d’un testament contenant un legs en faveur d’une commune ou d’un établissement public communal est tenu, dès l’ouverture du testament, d’adresser au maire ou au représentant de l’établissement légataire, la copie intégrale des dispositions testamentaires.

La copie est écrite sur papier libre, et il est délivré récépissé des pièces transmises.
