The supporting document referred to in article R. 211-15 is issued within a maximum of fifteen days of taking out the contract and renewed when subsequent premiums or portions of premiums are paid.
If this document is not issued immediately, the insurance company will issue, free of charge, a provisional certificate when the policy is taken out or during the term of the policy, establishing the presumption of insurance for the period it determines, which may not exceed one month.
Any insurer who refuses to issue one of the supporting documents referred to in this article will be liable to a second-class fine.
This certificate, which may be drawn up in as many copies as the corresponding supporting document, must state:
-the name and address of the insurance company ;
-the surname, first names and address of the policyholder;
-the nature and type of vehicle or, in the case of the insurance contracts referred to in article R. 211-3, the occupation of the policyholder;
-the period for which it is valid.
The international insurance card, known as the “green card”, issued by the French Central Bureau of Motor Accident Insurance Companies (Bureau Central Français des Sociétés d’Assurances contre les Accidents d’Automobile), is valid as a supporting document during its period of validity. The presumption that the insurance obligation, established by the international insurance card, has been met, remains in effect for one month from the expiry of this period.
The one-month extension of the presumption mentioned in article R. 211-16 does not apply to the provisional certificate mentioned in the second paragraph.
