Article R412-8 of the French Consumer Code

Where the indication of quantity is provided for by European Union or national regulations, it shall be expressed as a net quantity.
For prepared snails in shell and oysters, the indication of quantity may be expressed as a number of units, accompanied by an indication of the size. For mussels in shell, whether prepared or not, the indication of quantity may be expressed in units of volume.
These provisions apply to both prepackaged and non-prepackaged products.

Lorsque l’indication de la quantité est prévue par la réglementation de l’Union européenne ou nationale, elle est exprimée sous forme de quantité nette.
Pour les escargots préparés en coquille et les huîtres, l’indication de la quantité peut être exprimée en nombre d’unités, accompagnée de l’indication du calibre. Pour les moules en coquille, préparées ou non, l’indication de la quantité peut être exprimée en unité de volume.
Ces dispositions s’appliquent aux produits préemballés ou non préemballés.
