The Regional Economic, Social and Environmental Council is a consultative body reporting to the Regional Council and the President of the Regional Council. Its remit is to inform the Regional Council of the economic, social and environmental issues and consequences of regional policies, to take part in consultations organised at regional level, to conduct regional territorial foresight studies and to contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of regional public policies.

Regional economic, social and environmental councils may include sections under conditions laid down by a decree of the Conseil d’Etat. These sections issue opinions. The regional economic, social and environmental council shall give its opinion on all opinions and reports drawn up by the sections before they are forwarded to the competent authority. These opinions and reports are communicated to the regional council.
