European Union citizens mentioned in article L. 233-1 who have resided legally and uninterruptedly in France for the previous five years acquire the right to permanent residence throughout French territory.
An absence from French territory for a period of more than two consecutive years causes the holder to lose the right to permanent residence.
European Union citizens who have ceased their professional activity in France and their family members may acquire the right of permanent residence under conditions that derogate from the five-year period and those relating to continuity of residence, of article L. 234-1, in accordance with procedures laid down by decree in the Conseil d’Etat.
