Title VI: Professions of hearing aid acoustician, optician, prosthetist and orthotist for the fitting of orthopaedic devices for the disabled

When the authorisation to practise or the declaration of provision of services is issued, the optician must have the language skills required to practise the profession and those relating to the systems of weights and measures used in France. The language proficiency test must be proportionate to the activity to be carried out and must be carried out once the professional qualification has been recognised.

The dispensing of corrective lenses for ametropia and corrective ocular contact lenses is reserved for persons authorised to practise the profession of optician-mutician, under the conditions laid down in this chapter.

The conditions for issuing corrective ocular contact lenses to a first-time wearer are determined by decree in the Conseil d’Etat.

The dispensing of corrective lenses is subject to the existence of a valid prescription by a doctor or an orthoptist. When corrective lenses or contact lenses are dispensed for the first time following a prescription, opticians may adapt the prescription with the written agreement of the prescribing practitioner. When selling corrective ocular contact lenses or corrective lenses online, the service providers concerned shall allow the patient to obtain information and advice from an optician. A decree in the Conseil d’Etat will determine how this article is to be applied and will set out the information that must appear on the website.
