Article L3142-15 of the French Labour Code

In the absence of an agreement referred to in Article L. 3142-14, the following provisions apply:

1° The maximum duration of the leave is three months, renewable once ;

2° The terms and conditions for splitting the leave and converting it into a period of part-time work are defined by decree;

3° The time limits for informing the employer by the employee of the taking of the leave, its foreseeable duration, its renewal as well as the conditions for the employee’s return before the planned end are set by decree.

A défaut de convention ou d’accord mentionné à l’article L. 3142-14, les dispositions suivantes sont applicables :

1° La durée maximale du congé est de trois mois, renouvelable une fois ;

2° Les modalités de fractionnement du congé et de sa transformation en période d’activité à temps partiel sont définies par décret ;

3° Les délais d’information de l’employeur par le salarié sur la prise du congé, sa durée prévisible, son renouvellement ainsi que les conditions du retour du salarié avant le terme prévu sont fixés par décret.
