For the application of Article R. 211-14, the insurance undertaking must issue, free of charge, a supporting document for each of the vehicles covered by the policy.
If the policy cover applies to both a motor vehicle and its trailers or semi-trailers, a single supporting document may be issued, provided that it specifies the type of trailers or semi-trailers which may be used with the vehicle and, where applicable, their registration number.
For vehicles used in the private public transport of passengers, if the supporting document does not state that the policy covers the transport of passengers for hire or reward, it must be accompanied by proof that this is the case.
For insurance contracts concerning the persons mentioned in article R. 211-3, the supporting document must be issued by the insurance company in as many copies as are provided for in the contract.
The supporting document must state
a) the name and address of the insurance undertaking ;
b) the surname, first names and address of the policyholder;
c) the number of the insurance policy;
d) the insurance period corresponding to the premium or portion of premium paid;
e) the characteristics of the vehicle, in particular its registration number or, if there is none, the engine number.
Notwithstanding the above provisions, the supporting document issued to car repair, sales or inspection professionals does not include the information specified in e. It shall also mention the policyholder’s profession and, in clear terms, the word “Garage”.
Any driver of a vehicle who presents to the inspection authorities the supporting document containing the information specified in the previous paragraph must also be able to prove that he has been entrusted with driving the vehicle by one of the persons mentioned in the first paragraph of article R. 211-3.
