Article R2213-2 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

In all places, the operator participating in the external funeral service mentioned in article L. 2223-23 shall, without delay, provide the body of the person whose death has been ascertained with a non-removable plastic bracelet bearing the surname, first name and date of death or, failing this, any information enabling the deceased to be identified.

However, when the death occurs in a public or private health, social or medico-social establishment, this operation is carried out by an agent of the establishment, under the responsibility of the head of the establishment.

En tous lieux, l’opérateur participant au service extérieur des pompes funèbres mentionné à l’article L. 2223-23 munit, sans délai, le corps de la personne dont le décès a été constaté d’un bracelet plastifié et inamovible comportant les nom, prénom et date de décès ou, à défaut, tous éléments permettant l’identification du défunt.

Toutefois, lorsque le décès survient dans un établissement de santé, un établissement social ou médico-social, public ou privé, cette opération est réalisée par un agent de l’établissement, sous la responsabilité du chef d’établissement.
