Article R412-4 of the French Consumer Code

When foodstuffs are pre-packaged, the indication identifying the batch and, where applicable, the letter “L” appear on the pre-packaging or on a label attached to it.
However, when the date of minimum durability or the use-by date appears on the labelling, the manufacturing batch may not be indicated as long as this date consists of the indication, in clear and in order, of at least the day and the month.

Lorsque les denrées alimentaires sont préemballées, la mention permettant d’identifier le lot, et, le cas échéant, la lettre ” L ” figurent sur le préemballage ou sur une étiquette liée à celui-ci.
Toutefois, lorsque la date de durabilité minimale ou la date limite de consommation figure dans l’étiquetage, le lot de fabrication peut ne pas être indiqué dès lors que cette date se compose de l’indication, en clair et dans l’ordre, au moins du jour et du mois.
