Pedicurists and chiropodists are prohibited from collaborating in or endorsing commercial activities for the sale of products or appliances that they prescribe or use.
A chiropodist may only engage in another activity if it is compatible with his or her independence and professional dignity and if it is not likely to enable him or her to profit from his or her acts or advice.
The chiropodist must take care in his writings, comments or lectures not to undermine the honour of the profession or its members. Pedicurists and chiropodists may not practice under a pseudonym. A chiropodist who uses a pseudonym for activities relating to his or her profession must declare this to the regional or inter-regional council of the Order.
The chiropodist is prohibited from: 1° prematurely disclosing to health professionals with a view to immediate application a new and insufficiently tested treatment procedure if he has not taken care to warn them of the possible dangers it may entail; 2° Disclosing the same procedure to a non-professional audience when its efficacy and safety have not been demonstrated; 3° Misleading the good faith of practitioners or customers by presenting to…
A chiropodist who holds an elective or administrative office may not use it to increase his clientele.
Any certificate, attestation or document given to a patient must bear the handwritten signature of the chiropodist and be written in French; a translation into the patient’s language may be provided at the patient’s expense. It is forbidden to draw up a biased report, certificate or attestation of convenience.
The chiropodist must always maintain a correct and attentive attitude towards patients and their families. They must respect their privacy and dignity. They must not interfere in their patient’s personal or family affairs for no professional reason.
A chiropodist must examine, advise or treat all his patients with the same conscience, regardless of their origin, morals, social or family situation, membership or non-membership of a particular ethnic group, nation or religion, disability or state of health, reputation or any feelings he may have towards them.
A chiropodist who has agreed to provide care to a patient undertakes : 1° to provide the patient with informed care in accordance with the latest scientific knowledge, either personally or, where his conscience so requires, by calling in another chiropodist or another health professional ; 2° to act in all circumstances with propriety and kindness towards the patient and to show compassion towards him ; 3° to agree to…
In compliance with his legal obligations to provide assistance and except in emergencies, the chiropodist may refuse care for professional or personal reasons. In such cases, he must inform the patient, ensure continuity of care and provide any information that may be useful for this purpose.
