The elections of the members of the committee and of the chairman may be challenged before the Conseil d’Etat by any elector, by the candidates and by the minister responsible for local authorities, within ten days of the publication of the results in the Journal officiel, on the initiative of the prefect of the Ile-de-France region.

The committee draws up its own rules of procedure. These are approved by the minister responsible for local authorities. The minister responsible for cities and the minister for the interior or their representatives attend committee meetings. The committee meets at least once a year.
