Chapter II: Financial support for theatrical releases of short-lived cinematographic and audiovisual works

Direct grants are awarded for the showing of short cinematographic and audiovisual works in cinemas. Direct grants are awarded either for a specific work or for a programme of works made up of several short cinematographic and audiovisual works, known as a “short programme”.

I.-When direct grants are awarded for a specific work, this work must: 1° Not be a music video or a series episode; 2° Not have been produced as part of an initial or further training course; 3° Have obtained a cinematographic exhibition permit less than seven years before the planned screening date; 4° Have obtained the broadcasting approval provided for in article 412-8.

When direct allocations are granted for a programme of short films, this programme must comprise, for at least 60% of its screening time: 1° Short-length cinematographic works meeting the conditions of I of article 412-4; 2° Short-length audiovisual works meeting the conditions set out in II of article 412-4.

The beneficiaries of direct subsidies are, on the one hand, the companies that produced the works and, on the other, the companies that distribute them to cinemas.

To qualify for direct allowances, delegated production companies and distribution companies must be established in France and set up as a commercial company.
