In enclosed premises where workers are required to stay, the air is renewed in such a way as to : 1° Maintain a state of purity in the atmosphere that is conducive to the health of workers; 2° Avoid excessive temperature rises, unpleasant odours and condensation.
The rules applicable to the aeration, ventilation and sanitation of premises are laid down according to the nature and characteristics of these premises.
For the purposes of this chapter, the following definitions apply 1° Fresh air: air taken from the open air away from sources of pollution; 2° Recycled air: air taken and reintroduced into a room or group of rooms. Air taken outside pollutant collection points and reintroduced into the same room after thermal conditioning is not considered to be recycled air; 3° Non-specific pollution rooms, rooms in which pollution is linked…
In premises with non-specific pollution, ventilation is provided either by mechanical ventilation or by permanent natural ventilation. In the latter case, the premises have openings opening directly to the outside and their controls are accessible to the occupants.
Ventilation by natural ventilation, provided exclusively by the opening of windows or other openings giving direct access to the outside, is authorised when the volume per occupant is equal to or greater than : 1° 15 cubic metres for offices and premises where light physical work is performed; 2° 24 cubic metres for other premises.
Where ventilation is provided by mechanical means, the minimum fresh air flow rate to be introduced per occupant is set out in the following table: DESIGNATION OF PREMISES MINIMUM FLOWof fresh air per occupant(in cubic metres per hour) Offices, rooms without physical work 25 Catering premises, sales premises, meeting rooms 30 Workshops and rooms with light physical work 45 Other workshops and premises 60
Rooms reserved for traffic and rooms that are only occupied occasionally may be ventilated via adjacent rooms with non-specific pollution to which they open.
The air sent after recycling into premises with non-specific pollution is filtered. The recycled air is not taken into account when calculating the minimum fresh air flow rate provided for in Article R. 4222-6. In the event of a breakdown in the purification or filtration system, recycling is stopped.
It is forbidden to send polluted air from a room with specific pollution, after recycling it in a room with non-specific pollution.
In premises with specific pollution, the average concentrations of total and respirable dust in the atmosphere inhaled by a worker, assessed over an eight-hour period, must not exceed 4 and 0.9 milligrams per cubic metre of air respectively.
