CHAPTER II: Provisions specific to the commune of Paris

The mayor issues the burial authorisation provided for in article R. 2213-31, when the body is buried in one of the Parisian cemeteries even if it is located outside the territory of Paris.

In the case provided for in article R. 2223-13, when the mayor or his delegate goes to the cemetery to note the abandoned state of a plot, he may be accompanied by the police commissioner or, in the latter’s absence, by a sworn official from the cemetery’s surveillance staff.

The posters provided for in article R. 2223-16 are posted at the gate of each cemetery.

In the case provided for in article R. 2223-6, the names of persons are, in addition, entered in a special register with an alphabetical index by owner’s name. The register, kept at the conservation office of the cemetery where the ossuary has been built, must present, as regards binding, paper and ink, the same guarantees of solidity and duration as civil status registers. The Prefect of Police exercises the powers devolved to the Prefect by articles R. 2213-32 and R. 2213-22.

The Prefect of Police exercises the powers devolved to the Mayor by articles R. 2213-2-2, R. 2213-5, R. 2213-7, R. 2213-13, R. 2213-14, R. 2213-21, R. 2213-29, R. 2213-40, R. 2213-44, R. 2223-78and R. 2223-95. The notice provided for in article R. 2213-10 and the report provided for in article R. 2213-44 shall be sent to the Prefect of Police.

In the case provided for in article R. 2213-45, the two wax seals affixed to the coffin shall bear the seal of the police station.
